A mixed reception

It's one of the top stories on the BBC News website this morning, for some reason:
UFC: More boos for Trump at Mixed Martial Arts fight
And the BBC is tweeting about it too:

The report begins:
Donald Trump was met with raucous boos - and some cheers - on Saturday as he attended the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in New York.
The US president attended the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event with high-ranking Republicans and his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.
A small anti-Trump protest was held at the Madison Square Garden arena.
It comes less than a week after the president was booed at the baseball World Series in Washington DC
The interesting thing about the Twitter reaction is the sheer number of people shouting 'Fake news!' at the BBC in response. So loud was that chorus that I thought I'd better check.

Googling around, the first take I found was from Reuters. That begins:
U.S. President Donald Trump presided over a bruising Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) showdown on Saturday in his first visit to New York City after declaring his exodus from the Big Apple and as an impeachment inquiry looms over his presidency.
Days after being booed at a World Series game in Washington, Trump was greeted by an ovation from many fans of the contact sport gathered to watch fighter Nate Diaz face off against Jorge Masvidal in an Ultimate Fighting Championship match at Madison Square Garden.
Who's right?

Different slants, obviously.

Incidentally, the BBC's headline later changed to:
UFC: Raucous reception for Trump at Mixed Martial Arts
And Newsniffer shows that early versions had an embarrassing spelling mistake:

  • Original Version: his former presidential rival Hilary Clinton
  • Version 1: his former presidential rival Hilary Clinton
  • Version 2: his former presidential rival Hilary Clinton
  • Version 3: his former presidential rival Hillary Clinton

It took well over two hours for them to spot and correct that.

    1. Ah yes. Herbert Hoover, Harry S Truman, George Bush Snr, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama are among the past presidents that got booed at baseball games.
