Oh, how the defenders of the indefensible laughed and heaped scorn upon me for thinking I had found something telling about the BBC.<br /><br />Yet, here we are. I was listening to a programme about the development of medical science. A female doctor opined that things had improved in medical training and cited as a kind of supporting fact (though no explanation for this was given) that 60% of medical students were female. Yes, a gender imbalance but judging by her gleeful tone, not one she is in the slightest bit concerned about! I suspect the suicide rate has more to do with being so far north. Scandinavia has a pretty high rate too, but then it is 'close' to Russia too, as are most places in the northern hemisphere, given the size of Russia.<br />I seem to remember that the miners weren't too popular in Birmingham after their visit to Saltley.
