Does he think he's an asset to a political party by showing up his blinkered self-righteous stupidity?

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3272054900018746845.post-82739124563819777432019-05-06T23:32:13.058+01:002019-05-06T23:32:13.058+01:00"The Minority is the Majority" read the ..."The Minority is the Majority" read the huge banner behind High Comrade Esler. Till then he had been speaking in reasonable, almost moderate terms about the danger of democratic votes but now his tone changed. "We will not be ruled by village idiots!" he boomed with cold, dark determination.

The crowd erupted in party slogans: "Fear is Freedom", "Change is Good Unless it is Bad", "The Right is Far Right"...before settling on a rythmic chant of "EU Good, UK Bad, England Fascist".

Even though Winston knew it was all rot and that the slogans might disappear or be contradicted the next day, he could not help but be swept up by the emotion of the crowd swathed in the blue and gold of the movement. For a second or two he even convinced himself he believed in the slogans. It was good to belong, to be virtuous, to know with absolute certainty that you were virtuous. There was none more virtuous than Esler. He always ended his speeches with that assertion: "There is none more virtuous than the High Comrade!" at which the crowd would erupt with their loudest cheers knowing that his virtue was theirs... Gavin Esler is now well-and-truly out of his bubble, the BBC echo chamber and, from what I've seen on social media, his pronouncements are being very widely mocked. He's bringing out budding satirists from across the country. It is therefore unlikely that his views have changed significantly since he was surrounded by like-minded friends and colleagues at the BBC. It is fair to assume that having the freedom to do so, he is giving voice to the prevailing sentiments held within the BBC. The 'village idiot' taunt is disgraceful.

Incidentally, it is the liberal educated middle-class in Turkey who are the oppressed. Here in the UK it is that group who have become the anti-democratic oppressors.Arthur Trofhttp://otboae.comnoreply@blogger.com
