I guess I never noticed it before, or it hadn't registered when Farage brought it up last year, but the BBC's use of 'Europe' when referring to the EU is one more example of their using the language of advocates as if it's everyday speech.

It's not just the BBC, of course. Cameron and other did it yesterday. But they are advocates, and it doesn't matter if the newspapers and Sky do it, because the BBC claims to operate to a higher standard. They do not.David Preiser (USA)https://www.blogger.com/profile/00055001852090086556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3272054900018746845.post-27295798151171449332016-02-23T17:45:37.784+00:002016-02-23T17:45:37.784+00:00I too used to prize the BBC.
There was a time w...I too used to prize the BBC.

There was a time when it stood up for democratic values against Communism and Fascism around the world. The BBC World Service in particular was as a beacon of light to the oppressed.

Also its drama then did tackle genuine social issues, rather than creating a parallel PC universe which is now what we have on offer (cf Eastenders unbelievable Muslim characters - as unbelievable as Corrie's BTW).

Its art and documentary content seemed of greater quantity and reasonable quality in former years. BBC 4 still offers interesting documentaries but the main channels seem to have given up on them.

It didn't pander to an entirely dumbed down popular culture.

I have always valued the ability to watch programmes without interruptions for commercial products. But now the BBC is as much an advertising vehicle for itself as anything else.

But what has really irked me is its News content in recent years, where news has been replaced by wish fulfilment. An example - the disgraceful behaviour of Jenny Hill, welcoming into Germany (not even her country!) huge numbers of migrants, about whom neither she nor any German official knew anything.

The relentless pushing of positive migrant and Muslim stories, and hiding of bad news, and its failure to analyse properly the very real threat of totalitarian Sharia to our democratic values (something Channel 4 has generally) has got to the stage where the BBC has become an accessory to what amounts to treason (a co-ordinated attempt to replace our system of governance with an alien one, that will make second class citizens of people like you and me - and certainly all women).

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
