This was a lady of a certain age, not an impressionable undergraduate. Yet throughout the conversation I had the impression I was talking to a child. Apparently everybody is out to get Jeremy, the newspapers, the bankers (whatever that means in the real world) and of course the BBC.

I don’t think you can completely separate the rise of Corbyn from the advent of social media. What is clear is that rather than bringing about a new age of democracy, Twitter in particular seems to have the opposite effect. Could it be that 280 characters infantilises the debate? Most Twitter spats seem more at home in the playground that in any serious discussion. It will move to turn it into a proper state broadcaster. Of course a lot of BBC Staffers will be militanly pro-Corbyn so they will have a powerful fifth column working within the BBC.

2. The only analysis that makes sense of all this is that the BBC has its own policy preferences which can broadly be described as "soggy Left". This pisses off both Corbynistas and anyone to the right of Theresa May. The left of the Conservative Party feel they can live with its soggy leftness as it tends to work with to their advantage within their party, as they can portray their rivals to the right as "out of touch". The Lib Dems and soggy left of the Labour Party of course are very happy with the way the BBC is run and with their policy preferences. The game played by the likes of Adonis and Campbell is to manufacture completely bogus complaints about bias to left or right in order that the BBC has an excuse to produce more soggy left propaganda - most obviously anti-Brexit propaganda.
