Iran preserved the planes and returned them to Iraq after the war. Why wouldn't a fellow Ba'athist try and help out Iraq? <br /><br />But I don't trust Sawers here - they are trying to find excuses for their appallingly naive support for the so called "Arab Spring" which was in reality a series of Muslim Brotherhood revolts. Sawers and co. supported (did they really believe it?? possibly, since they seem so stupid in all other respects) the idea of giving aid to these anti-Western revolts. When it came to Syria, it went horribly wrong - leading directly to the deaths, mutilations and displacement of millions of human beings for what? - increased domination of Syria by Russia and Iran. <br /><br />It is convenient for Sawers to make out that it was somehow Assad who promoted the growth of Islamic terrorism rather than Western nations who foolishly backed the Arab Spring revolt in Syria.
