My take...How to sum up Roger Bolton's position? My take:

1) The BBC does not have a broadly liberal bias.

2) Anyone critical of the BBC is aiding a campaign against the BBC.

3 ) Yes, BBC journalists might be liberal but their liberal thoughts are not reflected in their journalism.

4) A BBC man or woman -especially as one as high profile as Humphrys - should never admit anything negative about the BBC.

5) If you breach 4) your quote may compromise your position. This does not apply to people of the liberal left, such as Newsnight new boy Weldon, who has numerous anti-Tory quotes to his name.

I think 4) annoys Roger the most, which was probably why Humphrys was invited in for a chat. On the off chance Roger looks in here, I leave him this Rod Liddle quote:

“The whole ethos of the BBC and all the staff was that Eurosceptics were xenophobes.” He recalls one meeting with a senior BBC figure over Eurosceptic complaints of bias. “Rod, the thing you have to understand is these people are mad. They are mad.”

Chashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05416224937887886735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3272054900018746845.post-23304281815374998912014-03-16T15:00:12.296+00:002014-03-16T15:00:12.296+00:00Comedy gold this one wasn`t it?
To hear the sound ...Comedy gold this one wasn`t it?
To hear the sound of Bolton clutching at his pearls and Humphrys rather let the side down there at the BBC was grand radio.
Roger was supposed to be "championing the listener" was he not?...yet the first shake of a fey armband from the liferaft, and he turns into Sybil Thorndike..."this is only doing the daily Mails for for it, John old bean", being Rogers take on all this.
Makes Barry Took look like Ted Nugent doesn`t he?...and if he`s looking after our interests vis-a-vis the BBCs output, then Harold Shipman was equally concerned in husbanding the Ashton/Hyde NHS Drugs Bill was he not?
Craven, cringing radio...bet Humph thought himself out-quislinged by the next BBC Chairman in the chair opposite.chrishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04198777332934873417noreply@blogger.com
