Sheikha, rattle and roll

Alan at Biased BBC's post about the BBC's reporting of a speech by Qatar's Queen Mum, Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned (who may or may not like corgis but is unlikely to be fond of gin), calls attention to the fact that the BBC thought her Oxford University speech denouncing "Muslim-ophobia" newsworthy.

As far as I can see, only the Guardian (among the UK media) also considered it newsworthy. So it may not have been newsworthy after all.

[I would have found a look at Qatar's increasing role within British universities more newsworthy].

Both the BBC and the Guardian give her speech pretty much criticism-free coverage, for whatever reason.

Unlike the BBC's article, however, the Graun opens up its piece for comment - and I think it's safe to say that even the Guardian's commentariat thinks Sheikha Mozah's grievance-mongering rant is rubbish from start to finish.

Incidentally, fans of the later series from the Star Trek franchise might suspect that Sheikha Mozah (pictured on the right, above) is part of Starfleet.

Live long and prosper - unless you're a kuffir.

Possibly the possibility of the latter guided the BBC's thinking? They have a poor record of handling adverse commentary well, so are known to keep things nicely 'in-house' when it comes to remaining chummy with those who, for whatever reason, the BBC likes to stay the right side of. I have found Mr. Sopel's World (£) reports from various Emir's gaffs to be almost crushingly dire in the desire to keep the ad money flowing.

Good job she didn't opt for red. Seldom ends well on Class G planets.

  2. That futuristic building in the background adds to the effect.

    1. At the risk of sound very nerdish, the whole photo reminds me of an episode of 'Star Trek: Voyager' where Species 8472 recreated Starfleet HQ. The lady in the pink dress is Seven of Nine's frumpy sister.

  3. The real story here is that we have yet another example of Sharia-based subversion of our cultural institutions. This is how they work: funding "centres" in our colleges and schools, funding Mosques, funding "inter-faith" dialogue, funding lectureships, funding newspapers and so on - these are all entry points for subversion, propagandising for Sharia.

But no one in our mainstream media is even allowed to mention this, let alone debate it or assert it.

I would add - this isn't just a Sharia thang...it's also a Putin thang...lots of similar subversion going on.
