Not satire

The BBC announced today that its Science Unit is teaming up with Greta Thunberg for a new series about climate change. Rob Liddell, BBC Studios Executive Producer, says:
Climate change is probably the most important issue of our lives so it feels timely to make an authoritative series that explores the facts and science behind this complex subject. To be able to do this with Greta is an extraordinary privilege, getting an inside view on what it’s like being a global icon and one of the most famous faces on the planet.

  2. I was just about to put a paragraph about this on the Open Thread; and you have already seen it. Well done Craig.

  3. Surely BBC and Science Unit is a contradiction in terms? Who was the last genuine (show me the evidence) scientist they employed? Greta and the BBC; a marriage forged in wokeland.

  4. The only good thing about this is that with a name like that, he must get confused for Rod Liddle all the time...which must pain him.

Greta Thunberg leads an international death cult. If XR's policies were implemented tens of millions, possibly hundreds of millions, would die of starvation within a couple of years. World trade would grind to a halt. Health services would collapse. Millions of operations would not take place. More millions of women would die in childbirth. Good health services, ease of transport and secure food supplies would be the preserve only of very rich people who, as in South Africa, would have to live behind razor wire. There would be a complete societal breakdown. Mass riots would take place. There would be a breakdown of democracy - only a dictatorship could implement the cultish policies of XR.

It seems that Thunberg is moved by her Viking ancestry to visit death, rapine and pillaging wherever she can by forcing XR's policies on the whole world.

Thankfully two thirds or more of the world - China and India for certian - will ignore her, or lock her up if she tries anything in their countries.

The only people who pander to her are cokeheads like Gove, Marxist plotters like Paul Mason who think XR will speed the demise of capitalism, and fellow Green fanatics like Caroline Lucas.

That the BBC should be promoting her is absolutely no surprise at all, and to give her bonkers ideology a thin veneer of science is typical of their sinister propaganda approach (a certain party in the 30s and 40s of the 20th century did something similar).

  5. What on earth can this brain washed teenager tell us about science? Will the BBC ask school children to be its "fact checkers" as opposed to someone who is an expert with decades of experience?

To follow Greta around is a combination of pure propaganda and child abuse as Greta is clearly depressed and mentally ill, in need of love and time out from gadding around the world spouting doom and gloom.

For someone so young to be so angry and so lacking in self awareness that she is a consumer of huge amounts of CO2 she so loathes (her trip across the Atlantic required the boat crew to fly back after an unnecessary journey to the USA when to be truly carbon neutral she and the crew should have stayed at home and skyped). David Attenborough has travelled hundreds of thousands of miles with the film crews to reveal nature, but to preach to us about global warming when he has been no small contributor is hypocrisy. Extinction Rebellion protesters are all hypocrites too as these people are consumers with lifestyles that cause CO2 emissions, plastic pollution and buy stuff from Asia where pollution is not under control.

  6. The BBC failed over Brexit, they failed over the last General Election. They don’t see this as their propaganda turning people to the opposite. It is obvious in their minds, that the BBC hasn’t done enough to educate people into their way of thinking. What ideas will Greta bring to this programme of her own? She is lending her name but she doesn’t have the knowledge.

  7. The BBC present an irrational fervour in their support of Greta Thunberg. By the lack of a positive set of proposals from GT and XR, their message is only negatively anarchic. There's nothing new about the alarmism. The idea of a hydrogen economy dates back to the 1970s if not earlier. In the 1970s, Buckminster Fuller and Paolo Soleri put forward philosophically sound ideas aimed at avoiding the squandering of Earth's sparse resources by living less wastefully.

.... 'The rigged ‘citizens assembly‘ Extinction Rebellion is demanding would “exclude those who directly profit from the exploitation of workers, the Global South, or natural resources.” This would replace the functions of the elected city council. ' ...

Where is the positive message? We might be able to latch onto a movement that promotes a less wasteful way of life, but this from XR, and Greta by extension, is sinister indeed.
