Khat is a drug at the end of the day and does cause problems for all communtites that chew it , probably more so in the somali community where a lot of the voices and cries for the ban came from the somali women. Maybe the reason why the yemenis are not against the ban is the simple fact that the yemeni men allow and actually chew alongside their wifes, sons and daughters. Conclusion Khat ban would better for all the communities , i mean look at the somali communities in America and Canada and particularily in the city of Minneapolis (state of Minnesota) where there is a a large diaspora Somali community who are have integrated fully into their society and are the most aspiring amongst the recent immigrants communties in that region when it comes setting up businesss and being entrepeneurs. I live in Sheffield and i have seen plenty of sdomali and yemenis brothers which Khat has ruined their lives, yes they dont know how to consume it or handle it but some of us are weaker than others. To say Khat does not affect the Yemeni community is bullshit, i have just have to look at my neighbour who happens to be yemeni and chews very day, and see his kids in the morning travelling to their local primary school on their own at times crossing hazardous rodas and dual carriages ways and their mother who constantly complains about her husband addiction and lack assistance in helping raise, provide and look after number one...... his family. I also want to see what the somali excuses would be when their problems are not solved.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04153303575987981180noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3272054900018746845.post-31727453085963566342014-05-09T08:51:07.805+01:002014-05-09T08:51:07.805+01:00Khat has been chewed by us Yemenis in the UK since...Khat has been chewed by us Yemenis in the UK since the 1970s. So now we should be deprived of our khat because Somalis, who btw are already traumatized from the war back home, support a ban. There are 90,000 somalis in the UK, ok so if they don't want it, don't chew it, problem solved why ban it? Also, no one considers May a hero in the Yemeni, Kenyan and Ethiopian community, we absolutely hate her guts for banning something we have been chewing instead of coffee responsibly without causing trouble for decades. It's like banning alcohol all of a sudden to help the Irish. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
