It now occasionally mentions that Hamas's aim is to "remove" Israel (it uses euphemisms such as "remove" rather than destroy or exterminate). However it is careful not to tell the British public about the disgusting anti-Jewish propaganda that Hamas broadcasts.

Re the Jerusalem embassy issue, the BBC is also careful not to explain to the public that Trump was implementing a 1995 Act passed (by a huge majority) by Congress. They prefer to make it sound like this is another lone maverick policy of the President.

Monkey Brainsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3272054900018746845.post-29344026393945458702018-05-16T21:24:05.561+01:002018-05-16T21:24:05.561+01:00Sticking squarely with questions of impartiality h...Sticking squarely with questions of impartiality here I'd make a number of points:

(1) The BBC led with the deaths of Palestinians at the hands of Israel forces rather than with the historic US Embassy opening in Jerusalem. That's an editorial decision. Was it justified?

(2) Jeremy Bowen called Hamas a "resistance movement".

(3) When Jeremy Bowen's report moved from Gaza to Jerusalem he began there with peace protestors' scuffles outside the new US embassy. Why?

(4) Jeremy Bowen editorialised: "But so far, there is no evidence to back up Mr Netanyahu's claim that it's good for peace."

(5) Jeremy Bowen's bit from Israel began with more Israeli dissent - more peace campaigners handing out flowers. Why?

(6) Jeremy Bowen's section on the Israeli nationalist march was pure JB. The Israeli nationalist came across, with help from Jeremy's question, as a bigot. I'm very cynical about JB's reporting and his seeking out and finding an Israeli bigot (if bigot he be) is a far from uncommon feature in those rare JB reports on the Israeli perspective than aren't focused primarily on Israel peace activists and dovish former Israeli officials. We've documented several other examples of the same kind of thing here at ITBB before. Such people are a godsend to the likes of Jeremy Bowen, which is why he keeps seeking them out and featuring them in his reports. They provide a veneer of impartiality (hearing from the Israeli side') whilst actually being used to make Israel look to as full of extremists as Gaza.

(7) Note the closing sigh from JB about the plight of Gazans: "...in Gaza nearly two million people live with little hope, less patience and a belief that they've lost enough".

(8) Yolande Knell gave the Palestinian side and the Israeli side, but the Israeli side got only one (halfhearted) sentence.

(9) Jon Sopel made out (rightly or wrongly) that the embassy move was all about election winning for Donald Trump. Yes, "the Israel lobby", but mainly it's about catering to the evangelical Christian vote. It's partisan politics, folks, that's behind Donald Trump's "inflammatory" actions.

Any more points? Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08741318067991857821noreply@blogger.com
