All empathy was with the migrants and absolutely none with the Calais residents or people in the UK who might be pushed down the social housing waiting list if the migrants gain access to the UK (both of whom didn't figure at all in the programme). <br /><br />Also, the normally cynical Newsnight reporters seemed unable or unwilling to even countenance or examine the idea that perhaps this sudden co-operative attitude from the French vis a vis the issue (i.e. they seem to now accept they should be processing these illegal entrants within their territory) was perhaps something to do with persuading us to stay in the EU...because - call me cynical - the timing is perfect for the Referendum.
