Debate on 'Dateline'

Having spent so many posts on this blog bemoaning the bias of Gavin Esler's Dateline London - especially the way that bias so often results in a soggy bien pensant consensus where all the panelists agree with each other - it's good to report that today's Dateline most definitely did not achieve a cosy consensus. Very far from it...

...especially on the issue of the present Israel-Gaza conflict.

The panel split three-against-one, with Algerian journalist Nabila Ramdani representing the Palestinian side, and the others (liberal U.S. writer Michael Goldfarb, left-wing French writer Agnès Poirier and ConservativeHome's Alex Deane) coming down firmly on Israel's side.

It was an angry discussion with Nabila Ramdani getting angriest of all and trying to talk down everyone else.

I could have done without the anger but at least Dateline London gave its viewers a genuine debate for once.

Were it always that way there would be nothing to complain about.

Gavin Esler compensated for the imbalance on the panel by allowing Nabila Ramdani the last word.

We need more people like Nabila Ramdani telling it like it is. I sat and cheered her all the way
