Gallows humour

On the day when the gruesome news broke that leading Islamic scholar Caliph Ibrahim, along with several other Koranic idealists (including, perhaps, the odd 'British boy' or two), got together to burn a man alive, here's a wee bit of light relief...

Jon Sopel, the BBC's North America editor, has misspoke.

What crime did Jon commit?

Well, he tweeted this:
Just announced Harper Lee will publish second novel 55 years after "to Kill a Mockingbird" - glad his writers block got sorted #norush
Now, as both you and I know, Harper Lee - author of 'Catcher in the Rye', half-sister of Brenda, Bruce and Sir Christopher Lee, co-founder of publishers Harper Collins (with Gemma Collins of TOWIE), and direct descendant of General Lee (the car from The Dukes of Hazzard) - is a woman of the female variety. So Jon's use of "his" was clearly inaccurate.

Criminally so.

I for one hope the Old Bill will be called in when he arrives back on on our shores, that he'll be arrested, convicted and hung. As the times demand.

  1. Hanged. Hung is what will happen to his portrait, in the bowels of Broadcasting House. ;) Poor Jonno. Looks like he was being too clever by half.
