Humanising victims of terrorism

The lack of humanising detail in BBC reports about Israeli victims of terrorist attacks is something that's often been noted before.

The BBC online report on today's drive-by killings in Jerusalem, for example, is typical in describing the victims as "an Israeli pedestrian/60-year-old woman" and "a policeman", and going no further than that.

In contrast, ITV's online report goes beyond "a police officer and a pedestrian" and names the victims as "Levana Malihi, a 60-year-old grandmother, and police sergeant Yosef Kirma, 29".

  1. Humanizing Jews is Zionism. If it's not in the BBC Style Guide now, it soon will be.
