There's a peculiar report on the BBC News website concerning the news that British passports without the words European Union on the front cover have been issued from March 30. What's odd about it is that much of the BBC's report is given over to the views of one disgruntled (Remain-supporting) woman.
The report begins:
British passports are being issued without the words 'European Union' on the cover, despite the delay to Brexit. The new burgundy passports were introduced from 30 March, the day after the UK was supposed to leave the EU, but some people may still receive the old version until stocks run out.One recipient said she was "truly appalled" at the change.
And that "one recipient" is then made the main focus of the report, including her view that Brexit is "completely futile" and her question, "What do we gain by leaving? There's certainly a whole lot we lose."
Here's a screengrab of the whole report, with the "one recipient's" bits coloured in yellow, to show the extent of the focus on her.
The BBC report quotes from her Twitter feed, which turns out to contain plenty of photos of the lady in question draped in the EU flag and carrying a "Revoke, Remain, Reunite" placard, so of course she's going to be "TRULY APPALLED" at the British passport losing the words 'European Union' .
"One recipient, sister of a BBC reporter sitting next to me as I type, said she was truly appalled..."
ReplyDeleteIs that how they come to the notice of the BBC? Or is it -
"One recipient, whose telephone number was given to us by Lord Adonis, was truly appalled..."
Either way it appears that it's the Revokers who have silly sentimental attachments to passports after all...
