Battersea Power Station in 1936 by Bill Brandt from his famous series of night photographs of London, inspired by Brassaï's photos of Paris. He was arguably the most influential photographer of his generation and this photograph is a masterpiece. pic.twitter.com/cGlRz2rF8d— Davenant (@SirWilliamD) January 27, 2020

ReplyDeleteFrom Wikipedia:
... 'In 1956, he [de Maré] was commissioned to travel throughout England to photograph early industrial sites and buildings. The resulting images were combined with JM Richard’s text in 'The Functional Tradition in Early Industrial Buildings', [a book] which was published by the Architectural Press in 1958. The functional tradition within architecture had received little attention from contemporary architects until this study, but the work coincided with and promoted an increased interest in the qualities of early industrial structures.' ...
de Maré's work proved to be instrumental in the adoption of industrial materials and building techniques favoured by Foster, Rogers et al as they promoted the so-called 'High-Tech' style using an industrial aesthetic.
