A little while back, one of our posts - 'Dateline' - Guest of (Dis)Honour - established that the highly controversial Palestinian journalist Abdel Bari Atwan was Dateline London's most regular guest - by some margin.
Despite being extremely controversial (or controversially extreme), Mr. Atwan has always been treated by the show's host, Gavin Esler, with an air of great friendliness and respect. This has always intrigued me - almost as much as the strange question as to why this man is on the programme so much more than anyone else.
Here's a revealing video of Gavin Esler (h/t +james at Biased BBC) speaking at the launch of one of Bari's books. He stresses the "subversive" nature of Dateline London, especially in terms of its overturning of "stereotypes" (here, about Palestinians). He speaks glowing of his friend, Abdel Bari Atwan.
