Will the BBC follow this up?

The Huff Post has a remarkable development in the Asia Bibi story which, if true, is truly scandalous and ought to be given the fullest attention by the BBC.

The British Pakistani Christian Association told the Huff Post that the UK government denied Asia's appeal for asylum because of its concerns about "unrest among certain sections of the community." The chairman of the BPCA said:
“I’ve been lead to believe that the UK government had concerns that her moving to the UK would cause security concerns and unrest among certain sections of the community and would also be a security threat to British embassies abroad which might be targeted by Islamist terrorists.
“Asia and her family have now decided to take up one of the offers for asylum from a western country.”
Update: Andrew Neil has caught onto the story:

  1. I was discussing this a couple of days ago with a friend - that if Bibi was granted asylum in the UK, she would have to be kept far from areas of high Pakistani and muslim demographics.
Some stories absolutely prove that there is a very serious issue and this is one of them.

  2. Agree with you Enough. I don't doubt the veracity of this story at all. Our government and its collection of invertebrates are more than capable of this sort of behaviour.

Telling a Christian it's not safe to come to the UK. That just confirms our fears about Islam are well founded.

  3. So the British government is officially institutionally Christianophobic.

  4. Yet the government and BBC would have us believe Tommy Robinson is the problem.

  5. I can believe this. Malala was given asylum, but that was unproblematic as many Muslims think it is following the Propeht to ensure girls are educated, albeit subject to severe limitations.

But alleged blasphemy! Whoah!!! You're back to Rushdie - but far worse.

So yes, our craven anti-free speech government would likely wish to avoid any solidarity being shown with Asia Bibi.

We already have de facto blasphemy laws in the UK (even more so after the appalling ECHR ruling in favour of the notion of special protection for Islam's founder).

    1. To be fair, the BBC did not place a honking great target on Ms. Bibi as they have several others, so maybe HMG feels less like bailing out the national disgrace over this one?
