Even the folk at Newsnight are getting confused about sex and gender.
During a piece on 'cancel culture' during the July 10 edition, the programme's culture correspondent Stephen Smith said:
The creator of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, was attacked for her stance on transgender rights, after she published a blog arguing that gender was determined by biology.
Ten days later the BBC issued an official 'clarification':
We reported that JK Rowling had written in her blog that gender was determined by biology. In fact she was describing the importance of biological sex.
One of her concerns about "the new trans activism" was what she described as its objective that "women must accept and admit there is no material difference between trans women and themselves."
I see from Twitter that quite a few people complained, so that's a result for them.
(Wonder if the title of this post will boost viewing figures? Note to self: Better put a photo of Stephen Smith at the top of it to make sure).
