Don't Be Rude To Owen Jones Day

New blog favourite Lewis Goodall, who's just finished at Sky News and will be starting at Newsnight in the new year, has just recently published a mysterious tweet:
Oh I see Twitter is engaged in some mass organised bullying today. Great job everyone! Merry Christmas.
So who's being bullied today? I've no idea, but before I look and see I'm guessing it's not going to be a right-winger on the receiving end of Lewis's sympathy.

OK, I'm off to have a look....

Hmm, it's Owen Jones. A very crude, cruel hashtag about him (please don't click on the link) is trending at No.1 in the UK.

  1. It that’s bullying (the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group) then I suggest that some at the BBC bully Boris all the time.

  2. I am sure they only meant to type "Owen Jones is a Worker", a horny-handed son of the proletariat. He clearly must be, as the progeny of two members of the Militant Tendency...albeit an IT Lecturer and a local government officer . On the other hand perhaps the hashtagist wanted to suggest Owen's horny-handedness was due to something else.

Lewis's disapproval augurs well for his Newsnight career as an apologist for the Far Left. I presume he doesn't get upset by #CurseBorisJohnson #CurseRees-Mogg and #CurseDavidCameron.

It would be nice to think that our tax-funded BBC presenters were even handed in their disapproval of Hashtag Bullies (if so, I would be with them on that since there is a difference between robust comment and ganging up on someone) but it seems a faint hope.

  3. I see Laurence Fox was tweeting about not re-tweeting the Hashtag in a knowing way. I guess that's his acting career over and done with now.
