The will to live

This is by Dr Matt Strauss, the author of the piece concerning ‘the ventilator controversy’ that I linked to recently

I offer it to you because Dr Strauss criticises Emily Maitlis for her disdainful assertion that:
'You do not survive the illness through fortitude or strength of character, whatever the Prime Minister's colleagues will tell us’.
It appears this went viral (?)

I think it’s safe to assume that Dr Strauss (a critical care physician) has more going for him in the medical expertise department than has Ms Maitlis - but what do I know?

  1. It does sound as if this disease requires some courage and fortitude if you have an acute infection - it seems like the patient has to work at breathing and needs to stay calm while doing so. Some doctors say MS patients who have a positive outlook do much better than those that don't. There are some diseases where it seems to be important and others, like many cancers perhaps where it makes little difference.

Maitlis is stupid, in love with her own virtue and barely competent in the job of a Newsnight presenter. She's already been found guilty of biased presentation (re Rod Liddle). It's a scandal that the RTS keep giving her gongs.

  2. We all know that people with the will to overcome illness and who have a positive attitude have better survival rates than those who lack these qualities. Maitlis is as usual speaking from her lack of personal experience of life, and parroting the stuff other numties put into her earpiece.
