It would be easy to speculate about what motivated Theresa May to make this speech and we should never look a gift horse in the mouth. Full transcript here and here.
“………….the fact that we have, in Israel, a thriving democracy, a beacon of tolerance, an engine of enterprise and an example to the rest of the world for overcoming adversity and defying disadvantages.
As most of us here know – and as I realised during my visit in 2014 – seeing is believing.
For it is only when you walk through Jerusalem or Tel Aviv that you see a country where people of all religions and sexualities are free and equal in the eyes of the law.
It is only when you travel across the country that you realise it is only the size of Wales – and appreciate even more the impact it has on the world………….”
Ah yes - Wales...the international Land Mass Unit. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, brilliant. Telling everyone that Israel is tolerant of all sexualities will surely convince all the anti-Semites on the Left to stop hating Israel.
ReplyDeleteI like this site - about how the BBC is biased - but there's a pro-Israel bias that gets chucked in for no apparent reason which is devaluing the site for me. It's not relevant here.
ReplyDeleteIt gets “chucked in” because of the BBC’s blatant anti-Israel bias. It couldn't be more relevant.
DeleteCan`t agree Stephen.
ReplyDeleteThe BBC is serially biased against Israel, and I hope that the bias is consistent with a lazy liberal left worldview that is emblematic of the BBC/Guardian and all "progressive" parties and causes.
They don`t like America either. But Mays speech received no BBC airtime that I`m aware of, so I`m glad that Sue pointed this speech out.
