Of course, it hasn't just been the BBC is the crosshairs this week. Channel 4 hasn't had a good week either, having to delete a video and a tweet after their subtitles wrongly suggested Boris Johnson had said "people of colour" instead of "people of talent". An apology on Channel 4 News followed:
Earlier today Channel 4 News tweeted in error a subtitled clip of Boris Johnson making a speech, which reported him using the phrase "people of colour" in reference to immigration. The Prime Minister had in fact said he wanted "people of talent" to come to the UK. pic.twitter.com/wEpXGsPtg3— Channel 4 News (@Channel4News) December 6, 2019
Lewis Goodall (currently Sky, soon to be on Newsnight) went big on that on his twitter account - he must have a hearing problem! When the truth came out he executed a careful retreat rather than offering an apology.
ReplyDeleteAnd deleted the embarrassing tweets "as unfair to keep link to original clip in circulation". Hmm.
