A.C./D.C.

With his silly, Lady Hale-hailing spider emoji, Professor A.C. Grayling - who I once admired - has, very sadly, sunk into fanaticism.

Maybe the dopamine hits from his 68.8K Twitter followers are giving his life meaning. The meaning of life is, after all, one of the main traditional questions of philosophy and, maybe, A.C. has finally found its previously elusive answer: Become an extreme pro-Remain voice on Twitter and lap up the 'likes'. I really don't think David Hume would approve though.

Anyhow, here he is attacking the BBC's Laura K:

  1. Yes, what ever happened to A.C. Grayling? It's like he took out a year to live in the Amazonian rainforest, drank from the cup at the hallucinatory initiation rite, talked to a Jaguar and eventually returned to the UK completely unhinged and irrational.

Actually, I've noticed many of the most fanatical Remainiacs have suffered dislocation and trauma in their youth. Grayling is another example - born in Rhodesia, educated in its boarding schools, his sister was murdered in Johannesberg and his mother died from shock soon after. I can see how perhaps he came to identify the consolations of philosophy with Europe and (as many do) the EU with Europe. There seems to be something deeply pyschological in his need to defend the EU and have the UK part of it despite the Referendum vote.

At least he has not entirely lost touch with logic and is now campaigning for us to rejoin the EU, as should all those political Jeremiahs in Labour, the Lib Dems, Greens and elsewhere who have predicted Brexit will cause irreparable harm. But how many will?
