As you'll all know, after winning the presidential election in El Salvador 'populist' Nayib Bukele became the country's new right-leaning president in June 2019, replacing the leftist Salvador Sánchez Cerén of the FMLN.
Enter John Simpson, with a tweet:
El Salvador, under its new president (a former night-club owner), has done what China wants & cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory. As a reward, China has promised huge investment, large-scale tourism, & a new national football stadium.— John Simpson (@JohnSimpsonNews) December 4, 2019
Has the BBC's Chris Morris fact-checked that?
It was the leftist Mr Sánchez Cerén who broke off relations with Taiwan in August 2018, not Mr Bukele.
Simple Simpson says: "Stand on your head and continue receiving your £200,000 salary for being "World Affairs Editor" even though you're 85."
ReplyDeleteI would call him a job blocker but it's hardly a job he's doing, is it?
