Alex Stewart of Tifo Football wasn't impressed with today's Football Focus on BBC One:
Discussion of racism on the BBC football prog on now, followed by Lawrenson lamenting club owners getting “just another Johnny Foreigner” in as a manager. But yeh that’s fine. Literally a minute later. I mean...
Mark Lawrenson was talking about an Italian newspaper (Corriere dello Sport) which used the headline “Black Friday” to preview Romelu Lukaku playing against Chris Smalling when Inter Milan meet Roma this week:
The fact that got published just amazes me, the fact that whoever is the editor has actually looked at it and said, oh, yeah, that's absolutely fine. How archaic a judgment is that!
And just a minute later, as Alex says, here came Lawro again:
And I think it's probably...are there ten British managers now? Which is great because for all those years it was let's just go and get another Johnny Foreigner, and because, you know, whatever.'Johnny Foreigner' ia an archaic, derogatory term to describe a person (or a personification of people) from a country other than those which make up the United Kingdom.
It's a good job Gary Lineker wasn't presenting or Mark would have been frogmarched out and shot for that (by a firing squad consisting of him, Jo Brand and Adrian Chiles)!
I thought his comment was typical of an age old relic ex-footballer but, seems as though it's acceptable.
