Hard work

A typical Radio 4 listener

The Daily Mail today tells us about a briefing document to BBC producers from BBC bosses saying that Radio 4 "does not all have to be hard work" and that the station needs to do more to "bring joy and optimism" to its audience.

Ha! Even the BBC seems to have noticed that Radio 4 has turned into a sludge of well-meaning, serious, worthy, politically-correct, socially-liberal, soggy-left, preachy programmes, many of which could have come straight out of the Guardian's features pages, leavened by identikit left-wing comedy shows.

  1. Joy and optimism! lol Those ships sailed a long time ago.

Anyway, it's not true,is it? Listen to Radio 4 and you will find we are frequently enjoined to feel joyous and optimistic about mass immigration, destruction of patriarchy, Greta Thunberg and the wisdom of the young, Islam, diversity, the wonderful nurturing environment of lone parent families and of course transgenderism, whilst being regaled on a regular basis with laugh-out-loud jokes about violence being visited on Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Laurence Fox et al (well "al" as far as people to the right of Ken Clarke go). Radio 4 has plenty of joy, optimism and humour. Just not my type or the type of tens of millions in this country.

  2. I am being engaged (doubtless until blocked by failing to succumb) by a BBC 'Business News' type called Theo Leggett. He does not come across as much fun. He likes car and planes. Likely not invited in the same room as Greta.
