❝Hello. Today, tomorrow, and for the next few weeks, the National Health Service is going through its greatest test since it was formed in 1948. Although we talk about the NHS as an institution, it really isn't about that. It's about the exhausted, well-trained men and women giving their all this morning and every other morning, taking personal risks to care for the very sick and to get those vaccines into us. It's about people of all ages going in again and again, bone tired when their bodies say, "Turn over, go back to sleep," and then working for many hours, stressed, hot and sometimes grieving. We were right to clap for them. But this winter, clapping doesn't seem quite enough.❞
