Red faces (and noses) at the BBC

I was reading recently that Majestic Wines has been having a bad year share-wise, falling by some 30%.

Still, at least one British institution has been doing its bit to keep Majestic Wines flourishing - the BBC.

The BBC has run up quite a bill at Majestic Wine. Monkey has been passed a Freedom of Information request from What Do They Know which reveals the corporation spent £43,000 on alcohol “with the BBC’s single preferred supplier Majestic Wine PLC” over the past year. That excludes spending on booze for “production-related purposes (e.g. in the case of an end of series party)” says the BBC in its response, because “the information requested falls outside of the scope of the Act because it is held for the purposes of ‘journalism, art or literature” It goes on to say that “the BBC has a rigorous expenses policy which has been progressively tightened and we are careful to ensure value for money”. Will they be switching their booze shopping to Lidl or Aldi like everyone else, then?
