Manning the barriers

When Amol Rajan tweeted his 'scoop' about John Humphrys replacing Peter Oborne as a columnist at the Saturday Daily Mail he added, "Suspect BBC will be in his sights from time to time!" He wasn't wrong. First column, and John's straight in there!

He writes about "the tyranny of the woke" and says that the BBC should be "manning the barriers" against it.

"They have a privileged position as interpreters of the national conversation and they must ensure they are listening to it. All of it", he says. "Instead, they have let themselves be captured by the metropolitan conversation — obsessed by identity, shutting down more diverse views from other parts of the country."

He also says that the public "find the conversation in BBC circles ridiculously woke".

His "only partly tongue-in-cheek" suggestion as to how to deal with this is to move Nick Robinson from London to Manchester.

I think it will take a heck of a lot more than that, John.

  1. Well, John, shame you didn't feel the need to speak about the BBC's complete failure to reflect the people it serves until you retired with a pension probably valued in the tens of millions. Better late than never, I suppose.
