Four jokes from the Have I Got News For You Twitter feed:
- “We’ll never know why Meghan didn’t enjoy the Royal lifestyle” say journalists who’ve spent every waking second of the last two years slagging her off.
- Harry and Meghan praised for decision to become 'financially independent’ six months after their house was renovated with £2.4 million of taxpayers’ money.
- After Harry and Meghan retire from Royal duties, Prince Andrew offers to step in to open a new Post Office in Bracknell.
- Justin Trudeau says he's absolutely made-up that Harry and Meghan might move to Canada, although his advisors insist they've warned him about this already.
And, in complement, a joke from podcasting historian Stephen Graham's Twitter feed:
- The Have I Got News For You account tweeting gags about the Royal Family. An outdated institution, felt by many to be irrelevant in modern Britain and best left in its glory days of a previous century, Have I Got News For You can be seen on BBC1 on Fridays.
You get the feeling even they don't think they're funny any more...
ReplyDeleteOne interesting snippet - on Sky News press preview yesterday Kevin McGuire said and Andrew Pierce concurred that they couldn't discuss the background to Harry falling out with William because of "legal reasons"...aha..what might they be? Is that a subtle way of saying because of an injunction they cannot even refer to - a super injunction?
If so, then clearly the British public is being kept in the dark, just as they were during the abdication crisis back in the 30s.
And, of course, it leads to speculation as well, not least over the issue of heredity within the Royal Family...
It's clear something pretty serious has been going on - what with the Queen not showing photos of Harry and his family...during the Christmas broadcast.
This all just re-emphasises for me why we need proper free speech laws in the UK.
Yes that was curious. It's the first time I've heard any media people refer to a legal problem. I did wonder if it was anything to do with Prince Harry's announcement in Africa to do with legal action against the media. He's supposed to be suing the Mail on Sunday, for one thing..
DeletePossibly, but you'd think they would be able to be more specific if that was the case...
DeleteI've just seen this in The Mail: "In October, the duchess began legal action against the Mail on Sunday over a claim that it unlawfully published one of her private letters to her father. And the duke also began legal action against the owners of the Sun, the defunct News of the World, and the Daily Mirror, in relation to alleged phone-hacking.
DeletePrince Harry also released a statement, saying: 'I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.'"
Kevin Maguire works for the Daily Mirror so that could be it.
The Queen didn't show photos of most of her family in the Christmas broadcast. Harry and Meghan are way down the line in succession after Will & Kate's children, so they are now no longer "senior royals". The Christmas message is not about super rich celebrity seeking Harry and Meghan, but about Christ and His message to mankind, which is what the Queen spoke about.
