Claims

Tonight's BBC One News at Ten reported the following:
The Prime Minister says she will not "give in" to those who want another referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union. Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, Theresa May claims that "to ask the question all over again would be a gross betrayal of our democracy."
Interesting use of the word 'claim' there, don't you think?

  1. That's a shocker from the campaigning BBC. The Prime Minister is denied the authority to pronounce on matters of state and democracy.

Mind, they did the same to a High Court Judge the other day in the matter of the law.

  2. Coincidentally, I also referenced the BBC's use of "claim" in relation to charges of anti-semitism against Corbyn as opposed to the use of the word "accusation" in relation to charges of "Islamophobia" (is it even a thing...discuss) against Boris Johnson.

As I observed on the Open Thread, nothing happens by accident at the BBC. So they probably hope to achieve an effect with the use of "claim" in this report about May.

Suggests the BBC are now fully onside with the People's Vote campaign. I don't think it took all that Adonis-Mandelson bullying to achieve that...but they probably have looked at the end game and decided this is the best way forward to stop Brexit. The BBC has a policy on everything.
