I was about to post this yesterday, which was when this news appeared online, but  I didn’t get round to it. I couldn’t find anything about it at all on the BBC, so all I asked was: Is there any sign of this news on the BBC yet?

Ali Akbar Salehi

This morning we did hear about it. From Sir Richard Dalton on the Today programme.
“It’s our own fault” seemed to be the gist of his message. Are these views still representative of “our” FCO?

  1. How many of our wonderful diplomatic corps foresaw the fall of the Shah back in the 1970s? How many foresaw the rise of Hamas? How many foresaw the rise of IS, the Islamic Caliphate? How many foresaw that Assad would survive?

How many could fathom the Mullahs were simply not genuine in their professed desire for peaceful development and that the nuclear deal was all a sham? The idea of a temporary truce while you build up your strength for another push is well accepted in Islamic ideology on both the Sunni and Shia sides.

  2. One things is sure, the British and US Foreign Offices know FA about the mentality of foreigners where ever they live, and are especially dim witted about those in Asia and Africa.
