No, the BBC didn't publish a photo today showing Jimmy Savile kissing Cilla on the hand

Being a blogger, I tend to think favourably of social media. Though not so much Twitter.

Here's a salutary tale about the dangers of trusting everything you see on Twitter:

An 'infamous' satirical Twitter user ("Britain's vilest troll", according to the Telegraph), who revels in sending out bad-taste tweets (for libertarian reasons), posted an image today purporting to show the BBC's first report on the death of Cilla Black.

That "BBC report" 'used' a photo of Cilla being kissed on the hand by Jimmy Savile.

A bad taste joke, obviously. Not funny either (to my mind). But clearly intended to cause mischief (at Liverpool, Cilla Black's and the BBC's expense).

Unfortunately, some anti-BBC people ('people like us') have taken it at face value and are registering their shock on other blogs at the depths the BBC has now sunk to.

Funny old world, isn't it?
