Infamously biased

infamous
ˈɪnfəməs
adjective
1. well known for some bad quality or deed.
2. wicked; abominable.

Good evening. As we come on air it is certain that migrants are desperately trying to hitch themselves to transport at Calais heading for the UK, and some of them will be children. Lorry drivers will be camped out in their cabins with nowhere to go and rotting cargo. And the authorities will be too stretched to deal with all this. In this scenario, it's hard to see who wins. But it's also hard to imagine that today's promise by the Prime Minister of more fencing and some extra sniffer dogs to keep what he now infamously called 'the swarm' out is going to solve this huge human problem.
Is that an unbiased use of language?

unbiased
ʌnˈbʌɪəst
adjective
showing no prejudice for or against something; impartial

  1. Yep, I noticed that one! Completely inappropriate for a mere news cypher - a news presenter or reporter.

  2. Actually, it is a lot more threatening than a swarm. It is a lawless mob. I came through Calais in mid-June and it was horrendous even then. I would be for granting asylum for many/most of these people if the UK were not already groaning under the weight of legal migrants from the EU. I say groaning because the infrastructure and public services are simply not able to cope with the huge increase in population in the past 20 years. Until the UK gets back control of its own borders it has to resist providing unlimited immigration for the illegals as well. I am sure that given what many of these people have gone through they are achievers - enterprising & brave - and might be rather more valuable members of society than the economic migrants from the EU. But the bottom line is that the UK is already overpopulated. Whether a country takes in more migrants or not must depend on its space, its wealth and its population level.
