Not angels but angles?

Aaah, aw, this is nice. Theresa and Jean-Claude are, according to the BBC News website's lead story, smiling. "Theresa May meets top EU officials in Brussels as Spain withdraws its objections to the deal", says the BBC blurb.

Sky New, however,  isn't presenting things in such glowing terms. It's lead story has the headline May denies 'caving in' as Spain claims victory on Gibraltar

Are we in media 'angles' territory with the BBC and Sky here? I think we are.

  1. Some apposite quotes from a Clergyman's Daughter:

"Oh - things change in your mind. And then the whole world changes, because you look at it differently."

“Nothing in the world is quite so irritating as dealing with mutinous children.”

    ***

"The great modern commandment - the eleventh commandment which has wiped out all the others: 'Thou shalt not lose thy job'.”

“The best brothel-scenes in literature have been written, without exception, by pious believers or pious unbelievers.”

“And in every detail of your life, if no ultimate purpose redeemed it, there was a quality of greyness, of desolation, that could never be described, but which you could feel like a physical pang at your heart. Life, if the grave really ends it, is monstrous and dreadful."

    1. Thinking about it, I better mention that A Clergyyman's Daughter was a novel by George Orwell (who presumably the BBC always refer to as "Eric Blair, who went by the name of George Orwell"). On reflection, probably not too many people have heard of it now we are in a fresh century...I just thought some of the quotes were rather apposite in the current crisis.

  2. She wasn't just smiling when I saw that on Sky News; she was having a fit of uncontrollable giggles, most unusual for her. I thought of a woman at the end of her tether when something escapes like a sudden burst of steam. Maybe old Junket did say something wildly funny, though I have my doubts he could be quite that funny.

    1. That sick f*** Tusk quoted another pop song...Was it "You're Under My Thumb"?

BTW - why do all EU officials no matter what country they are from, be it Poland, France, Luxembourg or the Netherlands, all sound like sinister Wermacht or worse personnel from a 1950s B movie? I wouldn't want to start one of those gene-experiment conspiracy theories but it does seem a bit odd that that the Pole Tusk for instance doesn't sound the least bit Polish. :)

    2. Are there any decent politicians in Poland? He's a fright and previous PMs I've seen aren't much better. Maybe something is lost in translation. Junket is a hideous joke. And Verhofstadt who seems obsessed with us but hates us at the same time. At least we must be interesting, I suppose. The Scandinavians too, when they are commissioners, seem to have contempt for democracy. Their personalities and instincts must be subverted and subsumed by the soulless project that is the EU. There is no connection to the little people.

    3. Has anyone noticed how Tusk's intonation & cadences, but not accent, are often very similar to those of Stephen Hawking's voice synthesizer?

  3. Craig: Well, if it is just a question of angles, Sky's angle is the right one.
